Save the Date Cards: The Invitation Before the Invitation

You're engaged! Congratulations are in order. Perhaps you sent engagement announcements and someone's thrown you a party with loved ones to celebrate your upcoming nuptials. You've found the perfect venue and set a date to say "I do" to your partner-for-life. What now? This is where the Save the Date card comes in, of course! This card is a more modern invention and lets people know to keep their plans clear for your big day.
Ideally, these cards should arrive to your invitees around 8-12 months before the wedding. If you're planning a destination wedding or have a lot of family from out of town the earlier the better!
How detailed do you need to be this far out? We suggest keeping the information to a bare minimum, since some things might change! The essential info includes:
- Your names (of course)
- The date (No time needed yet!)
- The city and state (country as well, for a destination wedding abroad)
- Your wedding website, if you have one (We suggest a custom URL!)
- The words "formal invitation to follow"

At Charleston Street we like to match the card designs to the wedding invitations so all your wedding items compliment eachother. If you have wedding colors in mind or specific fonts you'd love to use we suggest using the same throughout all your wedding paper, including your menu cards, placecards, seating poster, custom cups, etc.

And that's it! If you're still unsure or have more questions, send us an email and our paperie design team will help every step of the way.
